From the pastor’s desk:
As each of us as members has joined a United Methodist Church, you were asked to make some commitments. Namely, will you uphold the church by your presence, prayers, gifts, service, and witness?
I am calling attention to these commitments as a reminder that these cannot be fulfilled with out faith. Faith to know from whence our help comes, our help comes in the name of the Lord. Carrying out these commitments should flow from our love that we have and or experiencing from God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
I am asking some specific actions to be taken under each of these commitments, namely:
Presence:
I would ask that each of us make the commitment to worship regularly. I have suggested that we do so here at J-town at least 40 times a year.
Prayers:
Pray intentional for the church daily. May be we all could pray at noon. Would it now be awesome to know that we are praying in unison as a church?
Serving:
I ask that if you are not presently serving in one of the missions or ministries of the church to find one and begin serving. One that comes to mind is Gaslight. Caroline and her committee have placed sign-up sheets in the lobby of the church. What a wonderful opportunity to serve while reaching out to our community.
Gifts:
We each have accepted God’s unconditional love and as that relationship grows so should our giving. We give not to support a budget, we give not as membership dues, we give as a response to God’s love and it is a worshipful act. Allow us to make a faith commitment by giving a percentage of our income to God’s household, the church.
Witnessing:
To discover and invite is all our responsibility. If we never intentionally ask someone to come to church or to a church function, they will not attend. Relational evangelism is one of the best ways. Get to know your neighbors, the cashier at your local market, people you sit next to at a local sporting events, etc… An event, situation, or conversation will open up giving you the opportunity to share your love for the church and God.
When these commitments are followed through on, the community will begin to say, “My they truly do love their God” and “They truly do love one another.”
Let us all covenant together to keep these commitments in the days ahead.
Looking forward to seeing you one Sunday,
Steven LIFTING UP ONE ANOTHER IN PRAYER

LOOKING AHEAD
Trunk and Treat is Sunday night October 31. We have had a lot of fun with this activity. Plan to decorate your trunk or truck. If you like to it is fun to dress for the occasion (several do). We line the vehicles up in the parking lot and children from the area come and get treats. It is a great way to bear witness in the community and a means of letting the community know that we love children. Put the date on your calendar now more details will follow.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
We had a good many children in the After School Program last year. The public school had more children needing help than we had volunteers. We need additional volunteers this year so as to provide help for more children. The group meets from 4 till 6 p.m. every Wednesday. The program does not begin until September. Are you willing to devote an afternoon once a week to enable more children to be better students? Is this something God may be calling you to do? We need men and women. Pray about it. If you feel led in this direction call the church office and leave your name.
